The Inspiration Behind the Book: Unveiling a Passion
My journey with Cyanotype began during my studies at North Metropolitan TAFE. Under the guidance of my lecturers, Jules and Mark, I was inspired to create using this beautiful alternative printing process. The thrill of developing a nude image, the color, and striking contrast led me to realize that this was the ideal medium for my book.
The Theme: Celebrating the Female Form
As a boudoir and fine art photographer, my passion revolves around celebrating the female body in an artistic and non-sexualized way. "NUDUS" aims to spread the message about the beauty of nude art, with the Cyanotype process elevating each image to a mesmerizing level.
The Challenges: A Rewarding Adventure
Creating this project was both a challenge and an adventure. The process required time, patience, and over 160 developed images for the final selection of 32. Yet the result filled me with pride and artistic satisfaction.

Cyanotype is more than just a photographic technique; it's an art form. It involves preparing a negative image and exposing it through light-sensitive paper to develop and fix the final image.
The Process: A Detailed Guide
Mix the solution:
Utilise potassium ferricyanide and ferric ammonium citrate to create a sensitising solution.
Coat your paper:
Evenly brush the solution on watercolour paper, then let it dry overnight.
Expose the film:
Place the negative print on the paper and expose it to sunlight or a UV machine.
Wash and Dry:
Fix the image by rinsing it and then drying the prints.
Additional Tips: Creating a Cohesive Folio
Ensure consistency by using the same treatment in Photoshop, the same chemical solution, brush pattern, and exposure timing. The beauty of Cyanotype lies in the ability to experiment, with each print being a unique handmade creation.
